Be careful where you or your dog walk on the grassy headlands. Sam Smith Park has a number of bird species that lay their eggs on the ground, in the grass, in well-camouflaged or sparse nests. The top photograph shows a Savannah Sparrow's nest and the second a Killdeer's. The bottom shows the parent Killdeer luring me away from its nest with the old broken-wing trick. Savannah Sparrows will remain on the nest until the very last second when you are just inches away.
