Coyotes have recently been seen in the park.
Coyotes rarely approach humans but, if you are walking a dog, especially a smaller one, some precautions are necessary.
If you encounter a coyote while walking your dog, gather your dog up in your arms. If that is not possible, shorten the leash as much as possible to keep the dog as close to you as you can. Loud noises, arm waving and big gestures can also help.
These photographs were taken in the park by Louis Crout on January 8th. 2014. The coyote is feeding on a Canada Goose next to the island in the frozen pond.
