JAPANESE KNOTWEED IN PARK - INVASIVE SPECIES

A large patch of Japanese Knotweed near the observation deck was cut down last week by a Natural Resource Crew from the City’s Parks and Forestry Department after they had received a number of emails about this specific clump.

There is much more to be removed, but they are short-staffed and have a long list of high priority sites that
JAPANESE KNOTWEED
need their attention.  We have learned that an assessment of the total Japanese Knotweed situation in the park will be made next year and more time will be spent on dealing with it.

Due to the sensitive habitat, herbicides are not an option in Sam Smith Park.

Go to Ontario's Invading Species Awareness Programme website for more information.
